This study examined the relationship between hospital-based On-the-Job Training (OJT) and the professional competence of 100 Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) Medical Major students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Parañaque City Campus. Grounded in Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, the study explored how hospital-based OJT relates to student competence across four dimensions: confidence, records management, work efficiency, and compliance with workplace standards. A quantitative descriptive-correlational research design was employed using purposive sampling and a content-validated survey questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficients. Findings indicated highly positive OJT experiences in terms of supervision, workplace exposure, task relevance, and skill application, with all indicators obtaining mean scores of 4.21 or higher on a five-point Likert scale, interpreted as “Strongly Agree.” Correspondingly, students reported high levels of professional competence across all measured dimensions. A strong positive correlation was identified between OJT experience and student competence (r = 0.89, p < .001), suggesting that richer training experiences are substantially associated with greater professional preparedness. These findings suggest that hospital-based OJT plays a vital role in developing the professional competencies of BSOA Medical Major students and highlight the importance of strengthening curriculum design and industry–academic partnerships in health administration programs.
